Cognitive Variation: The Philosophical Landscape

We do not all make choices, reason, interpret our experience, or respond to environment in the same way. A recent surge of scientific interest has thrust these individual differences into spotlight: researchers cognitive psychology and neuroscience are now devoting increasing attention variation. The philosophical dimensions this research, however, have yet be systematically explored. Here I an initial foray by considering how variation is characterized. present a central dilemma facing descriptions differences, discuss several distinctions used categorize variation, show that require further elaboration. Finally, canvassing topics for which characterization may significant implications, argue philosophers should take note why minds differ.
